Maurice Cannon Sr., age 85 , affectionately known as "Chubby," was born on January 25, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to Helen Cannon and William Cannon Sr. He departed this life on March 16, 2026, leaving a void that can never be filled and a legacy that will always be remembered.
Early Years & Foundation
Maurice spent his early years in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was raised by his grandmother, Addie Soules, and his aunt, Therodosia (Soules) Armour. During this time, he attended Public School 56, later returning to Chicago to continue his education at Wendell Philis High School.
Throughout his life, Maurice demonstrated a strong work ethic and unwavering determination. He held many roles, including a paper route work on a banana farm, and labor in construction-doing what was necessary with resilience and grit, shaping the strength and character carried throughout his life.
Work & Service
Maurice became a chef at a hospital in Indianapolis, where he discovered his passion for cooking. He later returned to Chicago and served as chef at Gulliver's Restaurant, showcasing his talent in the kitchen. He worked as a custodian with the Wilmette Public School District dedicated many years of service to Haliburton Funeral Home, offering comfort and quiet support to families during difficult times. He retired with a legacy defined by hard work, perseverance, and dignity.
