Jocqueline Renise Wilson

On September 12, 1986, God gifted the world one of his greatest treasures, Jocqueline
Renise Wilson. Born to Glenella and Jimmy Wilson in Columbus, Nebraska,
Jocqueline's arrival was a divine gift. Her mother fondly describes the moment as a
mixture of joy, laughter, and pain, recalling the 18 hours of labor that brought Jocqueline
into the world. From an early age, her aunt Arlene Franklin became a central figure in
her life. Arlene's presence was a meaningful part of Jocqueline's journey, leaving a
lasting impact through her care and devotion. After relocating to her hometown of
Evanston, Illinois, Glenella quickly recognized Jocqueline's remarkable gifts after using
the word "commiserating" in the correct form at the age of two. Even as a baby, she
displayed a sharp mind and a range of talents that hinted at the brilliance she would
later embody.

Jocqueline shared an undeniable bond with her mother, Glenella. Their relationship has always been rooted in love, respect, and mutual admiration. As Glenella served in the military, Jocqueline became her protector in spirit, embodying strength, independence,
and self-sufficiency to honor her mother's sacrifices. Their relationship was defined by shared laughter, unwavering support, and a deep love that Jocqueline cherished throughout her life.

It truly takes a village to nurture a soul as radiant as Jocqueline's, and her 'second mother,' Charmaine Larry, was a cornerstone of that village. Charmaine played an instrumental role in shaping the extraordinary woman Jocqueline became, offering her love, guidance, and encouragement.

Joc also shared special bonds with Kim Frasier and Phyllis Pickett, whose mentorship guided her through her journey from girlhood to womanhood. Her grandmother, Banny (Sandra Person), also played a deeply nurturing role in her life. Jocqueline's family and
community formed the foundation of her spirit and grace.

Jocqueline's faith guided her throughout her life. At six years old, under the pastorate of Reverend Zollie Webb, Jocqueline was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church, dedicating her life to Christ. Soon after, she joined the church choir, and to her mother's surprise, she sang a solo, revealing her angelic soprano voice. This would later become a hobby of Jocqueline's—performing in talent shows and even putting on private concerts in her shower. Early on, Jocqueline also displayed a remarkable talent for hairstyling, fashion, and beauty, crafting intricate looks that reflected her vibrant personality. Her presence and unique style commanded every room she entered. She had a smile that made everyone feel welcome and at ease. Jocqueline was a safe space for everyone who encountered her, always offering acceptance and understanding. Her smile was a reflection of the joy and love that she carried within. Her laugh was infectious, spreading happiness to all who heard it—the kind of laugh that could be heard from miles away. The type of laugh that stays with you forever.

Jocqueline's teachers admired her sharp intellect and curiosity, describing her as a star student with a passion for learning. In high school, Jocqueline's brilliance shone brightly in academics and extracurricular activities. As a cheerleader, she exuded enthusiasm and warmth, eventually becoming co-captain and mentoring younger teammates. Her grace, beauty, and authentic kindness earned her the admiration of her peers and teachers. Known for her impeccable style, Jocqueline left a lasting impression on everyone she met, sharing her light and love wherever she went. After graduating from the top of her class at Evanston Township High School in 2005 with honors, Jocqueline pursued higher education at the prestigious Lewis University, where she majored in Mass Media. She thrived on campus, excelling academically while continuing to make her mark as a cheerleader in national competitions. In 2008, Jocqueline proudly joined the Lambda Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She wholeheartedly embraced the sorority's principles of sisterhood, service, and scholarship, embodying its ideals in her dedication to mentoring youth, community service, and lifelong learning. There was rarely a room she entered without her 20 pearls. After graduating, Jocqueline returned to her passion for hairstyling and cosmetology, enrolling at Pivot Point. Upon completing her training, she began working as a licensed cosmetologist at one of Chicago's premier salons, combining her artistry
with her love for helping others feel beautiful and confident.

In 2013, Jocqueline took a bold leap, relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, to explore new horizons. A natural risk-taker, she thrived on the challenges of embarking on new adventures. Atlanta became her home and a place of self-discovery, where she embraced new hobbies like hiking, wine tasting, apple picking, white river rafting, cooking, and journaling. Over the years, she excelled in various professional roles, from
banking to event planning, ultimately finding her stride as a Workforce Analyst at S3 Shared Solutions, a company she admired for its supportive environment and growth opportunities. She built solid and meaningful relationships with her colleagues at S3 and
genuinely enjoyed working alongside them.

Jocqueline lived a life defined by grace, resilience, and a commitment to self-improvement. She poured her heart into every endeavor, whether through traveling the world, expanding her education, or uplifting others. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and authenticity she personified.

On November 5, 2024, Jocqueline completed her earthly assignment and gained her eternal wings. Though her time here was far too brief, her impact is immeasurable. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her—her family, friends, sorority sisters, colleagues, and the countless lives she touched. As we say goodbye to our beloved Jocqueline, let us honor her by embodying the light, love, and compassion she shared so freely. She is gone from our sight but never from our hearts. Rest in eternal peace, Jocqueline Renise Wilson.

Jocqueline leaves to mourn her father Jimmy and her mothers, Glenella Wilson and Charmaine Larry. Her brothers Siergio Larry and Jarvis Benjamin (Tekia) Phillips. Her sisters Ashley Morris, Autumn and Shannon Marshall. She also shares sisterly relationships with Milea Picket and Keisha Lee. She leaves behind her uncle, Jeff Rander, her aunts Arlene Franklin, Regina Rander, and Noreen Abrams. Her immediate
cousins, James (Marci) Bonds, Darnell (Diamond-Nyrie) Bonds, Bob Jr. and LaShanda Rander, Tony and Shanna Abrams, Kelli (Mike) Nelson, and Tavares Rander.

Her extended siblings, Sierrio, Joshwa, Joseph and Anissa Larry, and Jared Frye. Her love for her nieces, Zaniyah Phillips and Willow Harris, was unconditional. Jocqueline also leaves to mourn her godparents, Margaret and Conyers Ransom; her godbrothers, DeAngelo Fletcher and Leo Sivels Jr.; her godsisters, Cliftina Shavers, Kia Lee, Chiantè Perry, Shawniqua Parham, and Joi Ransom; as well as a host of cousins and close friends.

Jocqueline held strong friendships Jacqui Fomond, Christina Walkin, Jordan Valerie, Datia Flowers and Miriam Muhammad. She held her sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, close to her heart, cherishing the deep bonds of sisterhood she formed with them.

She held special relationships with LaMart Bailey (Uncle Mickey), OtIs DeJournette (Papa Odi), Michael Beckom (Uncle Mike) and Shanon Washington.

Jocqueline was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Jacqueline Rander, and Earnest and Bobbi Wilson, as well as her uncles, William, Bob Sr., and Curtis Rander.

Dear Auntie Reesie, I'm sure you are probably wondering what I'd If I were here today. I would say thanks a thousand times over for all the times you stopped and came to my rescue when I called, especially November 4th, 2024. Thank you for making it possible
for me to see my mom for the last time. You will forever be my "ALWAYS". – Joc

Wow, the memories we've shared over the years. I'll always cherish the safe space you created for me, the endless laughter, and the selfless support you gave. You left an undeniable mark on my life; one I'll carry forever.

I can never thank you enough for your kindness & the way you always looked out for me. I hope you know how much I appreciate you.
Auntie Gwen, I will never forget our vacations together. You showed me at an early age what values there are in seeing the world...I will always love you for that.
