Curtis L. Dorsey, Sr., was born on September 7, 1943, in Waukegan, Illinois. During his formative years, he was active and adventurous.  In high school, he was an honor student and an athlete. He held the high jumping record at North Chicago Community High School for many years. After his graduation from North Chicago Community High School in 1961, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably until 1966.

Following his service, he returned home to North Chicago and married his wife, Barbara.  While working and growing his family, Curtis earned his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Administration Certificate from Northeastern Illinois University. Curtis was a lifelong learner and advocated the importance of education in society. He served as an educator and administrator for over 35 years, including as a Dean, Assistant Principal, and Principal.  In addition, he taught part-time at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois, and at Delgado Community College in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Curtis was a master storyteller and never missed an opportunity to share a good joke.  He truly loved spending time with his family and friends, and his door was always open to visitors. He spent his spare time volunteering in the community and dedicated his time to community uplift through his service over the years as the Worshipful Master of the Rufus Mitchell Lodge #107, Illustrious Potentate of Shawall Temple #165, and Commander-in-Chief and Grand Inspector General of North Shore Consistory #91 A.A.S.R.

Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and their five children, Tinya, Jerine, Catherine, Barbara (Lee), Curtis II; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; his sister,Frances (Patrick), his brother, Marvin (Brenda), his brothers-in-law Theadore (Veronica) and Bennett, sisters-in-law Bridget (Atkins), Clydette (Komerette), Jacqueline and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and loyal friends. Curtis was predeceased by his parents, James and Margaret, his brother, James, his sister, Joan, his grandson, Larry, his grandparents, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Curtis impacted the lives of many and will be forever loved and cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
