Looking Back on the Life of
Charlotte Davis
Charlotte Davis , a beloved member of the Evanston Community, passed away on September 26, 2025, at the age of 86. Charlotte was born on May 15, 1939, in Evanston, Illinois to George and Sally Hutchison. Charlotte was one of 10 siblings: Georgetta, Thomas, Oliver, George, Bernard, Yvonne, James, Ronald and Shirley.
Charlotte married Vester (Bey) Davis later 3 boys were born to Robert Smith, 2 sons Robert and Mark: Richard Carter, 1 son Joseph Carter.
Charlotte grew up in the Evanston Community and graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1957. Throughout her life, she worked for Evanston Foster Center, now known as Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center as a Head-Start Teacher for Kindergarten. Charlotte also made her career in the fashion and clothing industry just north of Evanston in Winnetka, IL for a company named Young in Heart for 40 years as a professional seamstress
Charlotte has made many friends there and everywhere she went especially in the Evanston Community where she accepted Christ by attending Ebenezer AME Church and also Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Evanston, IL as a faithful long-time member. There she made many friends, and she assisted Pastor Barnes and other Church Officials assisting with various duties. She loved when they had cookouts and outings. Many of the Evanston Community and friends also have been known to see Ms. Davis at the Evanston Township Track Meets and Football Games where both of her sons Robert and Mark were standout athletes throughout their time there. Ms. Davis would host dinner and snacks at her house so her son's friends would come over after the games where they enjoyed her cooking.
As some or all of you here today will always remember our Mom Charlotte as this little lady who always dressed sharp and wore her fancy boots or shoes and her scarfs and sometimes hats. Charlotte was always a fancy dresser, guess this comes from being a true Hutchison sister, because all of the Hutchisons were sharp dressers and very well known in our Evanston Community as one of the friendliest and kindest families in town. Charlotte also insisted her family to having either Thanksgiving and Christmas at her house where she loved to cook for her huge family over many years.
Charlotte was proceeded in death by her parents; 2 Sisters, Georgetta and Shirley; 6 brothers, Thomas, Oliver, George, Bernard, James, Ronald. She leaves to cherish her memory 1 Sister Yvonne Clark-Phoenix, 3 Sons Robert, Mark, Joseph; 3 Granddaughters Hope, Chandler, Chase and 4 Grandsons, Juwon, Corey, Christopher, Tyrese; 1 newest Grandchild, Shiloh.
